Pounding the Pavement

Clarissa, an Outreach Worker, and Kate, AmeriCorps member, at Sanctuary's tabletop display during the PEACE Conference this year.

The Street Outreach Program, or SOP, is starting off the new grant year with great momentum.  After an awesome review from the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB), and outstanding performance during the first year, the SOP team is determined to locate more of Guam’s homeless and street youth, and make them more aware of the services available to them and their families.  However, our enthusiasm is challenged due to our funding limitations.  Currently, we are without an outreach vehicle, and have to rely on other programs for transportation to our targeted village sites.  In the meantime, we are in the process of reaching out to our local community partners and businesses; seeking sponsorship for a vehicle.

Despite this challenge, we are excited to be able to bring awareness to Guam’s street and homeless youth.  We feel confident that our services will bring about active change for those individuals who feel that they are “stuck” without any options; bringing youth out of a state of hopelessness.  Further, we feel that going into typical youth congregation sites will have more of an impact on the number of youth willing to access services.  If you or anyone you know is in need of any of services offered by Sanctuary, Inc. or any of our partners, please feel free to contact Mr. Jimmy Tenorio, the SOP Case Manager at 475-7103 for a screening, referral, or advice.
