Sanctuary Interim Executive Director and Managers with Honorable Judith Won Pat, Speaker of 30th Guam Legislature, and Honorable Tina Muna-Barnes, Senator of 30th Guam Legislature, at the Proclamation/Ecumenical Services for this year's Sanctuary Month.
The 39 years of service to our island’s youth and their families would not have been possible without the support of our community. On October 29th 2010, Sanctuary kicked off the Sanctuary Month celebrations with an ecumenical service held at Fort Santa Agueda. After a light rain fell, often considered a local blessing, a spiritual chant was offered by members of Irensian Taotao-Tano. Following this were several prayers offered by members of various faith denominations. Then, Speaker Judith Won Pat of Guam’s 30th Legislature presented a Sanctuary Month resolution with Senator Tina Muna-Barnes followed by a closing song performed by Mrs. Conie Rabara. Though the scheduled event had ended, attendees stayed and socialized while enjoying some light refreshments.
Throughout the event, guests and speakers commended Sanctuary for the work it has done for the community for the past 39 years. They also encouraged the staff and volunteers to continue the mission that Sanctuary has established since 1971. With the anticipation of the upcoming buildup, Sanctuary will play an important role in assisting the community’s youth with the issues or struggles they may face.
With its 39th anniversary celebration, Sanctuary would like to thank the community and its partners for supporting the organization’s efforts and for helping us help youth and families.
