Sanctuary, Incorporated and the Bureau of Social Services Administration, Department of Public Health and Social Services sponsored a FREE WORKSHOP at the Guam Marriott Resort, on Saturday, December 4, 2010, from 8am to 2pm. The objective of the workshop was to promote the overall concept of host homes and foster care on island in hopes of recruiting newly interested families as well as to provide support through training for current host, foster, or relative families. The workshop was a success as the result of the participation of over 30 individuals who were willing to sacrifice time away from their families, to enhance their knowledge on the issues that our island youth are confronting and to be inspired by their stories of triumph.
In addition, the workshops featured training sessions on “Eating Smart, Being Active” presented by the University of Guam’s Cooperative Extension Services Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), a certification training on CPR/First Aid where we certified four participants, a presentation on the foster care system, Guam Community College’s College Access challenge Grant Program and parenting skills: Discipline Makes the Difference.
