Sanctuary, Incorporated and the Bureau of Social Services Administration, Department of Public Health and Social Services sponsored a FREE WORKSHOP at Guam Plaza Hotel, on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 8am to 2pm. The objective of the workshop was to promote the overall concept of host homes and foster care on island in hopes of recruiting newly interested families as well as to provide support through training for current host, foster, or relative families. The workshop was a success with the participation of over 30 individuals who were willing to sacrifice time away from their families, to enhance their knowledge on the issues that our island youth are confronting and to be inspired by the stories and testimonies of our foster parents who generously shared their challenges and obstacles as well as how they resolved such adversities.
In addition, the workshops featured training sessions on effective parenting, a presentation on the foster care system, health and nutrition, relationship intelligence, and Bank of Hawaii’s Smart Money Seminar on ABC’s of credit, budgeting, and fraud protection.
